Dear Friends & Neighbors,

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Claire Levine z”l one of the leaders of this Jewish community and namesake of our Melvin J. & Claire Levine Jewish Residential & Family Service.

Fearlessly independent, yet humble and modest, Claire was committed to making the wider Jewish community as inclusive and welcoming as possible to those with disabilities. She did this because she believed that every individual, regardless of ability, has the right to a dignified life. She did this because it was the right thing to do.

Both Claire and her husband Melvin z”l challenged the status quo, and it seems appropriate that they were drawn to and passionate long-time supporters of our agency’s residential program. For the past several years, the annual residential seder hosted by Levine Jewish Residential Service was the only seder she attended. Her face shone when, each year, she proudly stood to light the candles to begin the seder. Claire welcomed opportunities to speak with the residents. One even presented her with a handmade bracelet that she proudly wore.

Claire believed in gratitude and always made sure to recognize even the smallest acts of kindness with a personal, hand-written note. You could not help but feel her compassion.

Claire is survived by her son Mark, and son-in-law Robin and Dan Gordon, grandson Thomas and fiancé Katrina, and great-granddaughter Sylvia. To make a tribute gift in her memory to Melvin J.& Claire Levine Jewish Residential & Family Service, click here. The family will be notified of your donation.

May Claire’s memory be for a blessing.

Sincerely,

Gary Hoffman                              Marc D. Hopin
