PSYCHIATRY

Dr. James Thompson, is a Board certified psychiatrist with over 35 years of experience in multiple aspects of psychiatric practice. He trained in psychiatry at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he also did a fellowship in community psychiatry. He pursued an academic career, primarily at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore. He has authored many academic publications. Dr. Thompson served as Deputy Medical Director of the American Psychiatric Association. Most recently, he practiced at Glen Cove Hospital on Long Island, a part of the North Shore – Long Island Jewish Health System.

In addition to Dr. Thompson’s services, AJFCS offers a full spectrum of support including counseling, case management and care coordination, a companion’s program, guardianship, support groups and services for adults with special needs.

Dr. Thompson is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and a member (and former Director) of the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology.
