Alpert JFS Psychologist Helps Young Mother Overcome Mental Health Challenges and Rebuild Relationships  

Sarah is a 34-year-old woman who embarked on a transformative journey when she started therapy with JFS back in 2016. Sarah’s life was plagued by erratic moods and unstable relationships, leaving her estranged from her own mother and her 18-month-old son. The gravity of her struggles was evident when she found herself hospitalized due to suicidal ideation.  

Her psychologist employed a compassionate and supportive approach, skillfully utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) techniques to address Sarah’s mood instability and unhealthy relationships, particularly with her mother and son.  

Over the course of several years, Sarah’s psychologist demonstrated what a healthy relationship entails. Through consistent support and guidance, Sarah gradually reconnected with her mother and son, cultivating healthy patterns of communication and a safe space to express their feelings. It was truly heartening to witness the healing that took place within their family unit.  

As Sarah’s therapy progressed, so did her personal growth. Today, she resides with her mother and son in a loving and supportive environment—a testament to the immense progress she has made. Not only has Sarah managed to rebuild her familial bonds, but she has successfully secured a job. Equipped with the skills she learned in therapy, Sarah has fostered healthy relationships with those around her, extending beyond her immediate family.
