Happy Passover!

The war in Ukraine is heartbreaking. The death and destruction is tragic. Millions of Ukrainians are being forced from their homes. Some are Jewish, including Holocaust Survivors who are fleeing from their homes for a second time. All are now refugees in a foreign land. For Jewish people all over the world, it is now Passover. The Coastal Star: “Meet Your Neighbor: Ellie Hart”

“So, I went to Alpert Jewish Family Services offering my services two days a week. I learned the organization’s programs, became an AmeriCorps volunteer, and did outreach to veterans. Through someone I met at a lecture, I had the opportunity to accompany a female veteran on an Honor Flight to Washington. Very thrilling. The service as an AmeriCorps volunteer introduced me to a new community of people (mostly veterans) and gave me a genuine appreciation of their service to America. […]

Haman desired to be the supreme leader, something he knew the Jewish people would […]

Martin Luther King Jr’s Birthday

The offices of Alpert Jewish Family Service are closed on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s Birthday. There are numerous connections between the work of Dr. King and the Jews living in America at the time which include the following: ·         Dr. King repeatedly used the Jewish experience as a model of success over oppression. ·         A Jewish woman, Esther Brown, in Topeka, Kan., started the lawsuit Brown vs. Board of Education. That 1954 Supreme Court decision put an end to legally mandated racially segregated schools. (Note that the […]
