50th Anniversary

Dear Friends,

When Jewish Family Service of Palm Beach County, Inc. was established 50 years ago, there were very few places in our community for people to turn to in their time of need. In 1974, supports for individuals with mental health challenges, vulnerable seniors, families facing food insecurity, and people with disabilities were limited, with little coordination among agencies.

Our agency addressed these issues by establishing a more efficient and effective system of delivering care to those in need. As a multi-disciplinary agency with over two dozen programs and services, Ferd & Gladys Alpert Jewish Family Service provides resources, information, and support to over 12,500 people each year. The agency’s wraparound services and holistic approach are a beacon of hope and possibility for people facing life’s challenges.

1974

The growing need for Senior Care management Jewish Family Service is founded as a Non-profit organization caring for seniors in West Palm Beach.

1980

Office established on Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. with 8 staff members

1990

Agency moved to the campus on Community Drive - satellite offices in Lake Worth, Boynton Beach. Enhanced Companion program began. Staff grew from approximately 30 to 100 (due to the Enhanced Companion program).

1998

Jewish Residential & Family Service founded our cutting-edge residential program, which provides a continuum of services for those who may be developmentally disabled, significantly learning disabled, and/or chronically mentally ill.

Jewish Family Service was renamed Ferd and Gladys Alpert Jewish Family & Children's Service of Palm Beach County, Inc.

2000

The agency continues to grow and create more programs and services to serve the greater community. In order to accommodate the growth of the agency, the offices are moved to Corporate Way.

2003

Alpert JFS holds its Inaugural No Excuse for Abuse Luncheon to showcase the agency's work on the Domestic Violence program.

2008

Chai Society founded to support all programs of Alpert JFS

2012

Jewish Residential & Family Service was renamed Melvin J. & Claire Levine Jewish Residential & Family Service of Palm Beach County.

2014

Mental Health First Aid Program established.

2021

Alpert JFS establishes JFSComForCare, a private duty home health care agency for seniors in our community who wish to remain at home age safely, in place. JFSComForCare serves those living in Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties.

2023

Center for Belonging and Wellbeing opens in Palm Beach Gardens. The center includes a new activity center for JRFS Apartment Program, a new Adult Day Socialization Program, office space for Behavioral Health, and a food cupboard.

Alpert JFS named Nonprofit of the Year - Large Category by Nonprofits First! This prestigious recognition is a testament to our team's incredible dedication and hard work and the impact we've made in the community.
