Susan is a longtime client of Alpert JFS, who meets regularly with Psychiatrist Dr. James Thompson. With child support as her only income, she struggles to make ends meet. If that wasn’t enough, her ex-husband harasses her constantly, bringing her to court over frivolous things, and she she doesn’t have resources for an attorney.

After a recent session, both Dr. Thompson and Behavioral Health Administrative Support Coordinator Jayne Lewis noted the mounting severity of Susan’s emotional state and financial struggles. Jayne confirmed that Susan met the criteria for both the LINKS and Domestic Abuse programs at Alpert JFS. Dr. Thompson referred Susan to both programs which would offer her essential support.

Next, Care Manager Jonathan Perez worked one-on-one with Susan, quickly assessing her needs, and developing a plan to connect her to resources. First, he made sure Susan’s electric bill got paid, which was just days from being terminated. He also linked her with Belinda Lasky, Director of Volunteer Leadership, who arranged for food delivery from our pantry. Susan could now provide healthy, nourishing meals for her children over the next several weeks. Currently, Jonathan is working on her legal issues and her food stamp application, two important items she’s been too overwhelmed to deal with.

With access to these wraparound services, Dr. Thompson noticed that Susan’s demeanor improved dramatically at their session a couple of weeks later. No longer plagued by anxiety she expressed nothing but gratitude for the extra help she received from Alpert JFS.
