Alpert JFS’ Judith & Jack Rosenberg Mentoring 4 Kids (M4K) program is shaking things up, providing new, interactive activities for its mentors and mentees!

In mid-May, 14 of 16 matches, along with yet-to-be-matched kids and mentors came together online for Game Night. The Zoom squares were a happy space filled with 35 friendly faces who virtually shared a pizza dinner before joining breakout rooms to check-in with each other and play. Gift cards of players’ selection to Amazon, GameStop, Marshall’s/TJ Maxx, or Target were awarded to bingo and raffle winners.

As mentor Linda Weiss said, “Gaming online is a phenomenal idea! It gives everyone a chance to see each other and connect.”

The fun will continue throughout the summer, with additional bingo nights, canvas painting with supplies and step-by-step instruction provided by Uptown Paint and Sip to create a self-made masterpiece and Hip Hop Wednesdays, celebrating the form of self-expression that tells a story and conveys emotions. Participants are looking forward to learning the latest trending dances from Char Mar School of Dance; one mentor mentioned that she is a Zumba enthusiast (is a “dance-off challenge” in the future?)! Additionally, the kids will learn about – and make – their own vision boards.

M4K Director Jennifer DiSilvestro and Outreach Coordinator Lyndora Frazier are keeping the mentors and mentees connected online; the dynamic duos are also connecting for activities together outside safely, including getting together in a park to bird-watch and walk, going to the beach, and more!
