Newly launched JCCS Supports All Community Members

Whitney Cherner, LCSW, MSW, has joined Alpert JFS to lead the Jewish Community Career Services (JCCS) department, to help experienced job-seekers find their next job, and local businesses and non-profits find their next employees. The initiative comes at a most opportune time, as the COVID-19 pandemic has left many in the Greater Palm Beaches unemployed or underemployed. The JCCS is funded by a grant from Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County’s J-Help Coronavirus Emergency Response Fund.

“Empower U” —  a program within the JCCS department — will assist those in career transition, providing support with free employment-related workshops, resume refreshing, one-on-one coaching, and job-matching to help candidates put together a road map and meet their goals. Companies and organizations in need of staff can find a pre-screened pool of qualified candidates through the service.

The time has never been better for us to offer assistance with putting together a career road map to help people meet their goals, which may look very different in today’s climate. Cherner understands how strongly people identify with their jobs, and the toll that isolation can take. She considers helping people become the best version of themselves, and providing them with the tools for success, to be the best parts of her job.

“My superpowers are resilience, grit and perseverance, which I learned from running marathons and having to reinvent myself when I became a single mother of four,” said Cherner. “You need these same things to find a job! I think that’s why I am drawn to this type of work.”

Cherner, who received her undergraduate degree from Florida State University (FSU) and her graduate degree from Florida Atlantic University (FAU), was most recently Senior Director of the Mandel Institute for Leadership Development at the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County. Prior to that, she served as the VP of Career & Employment Services at Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services where she developed, launched and directed a similar program.
