Monthly Event for Holocaust Survivors Goes Virtual!

Seniors Embrace Technology to Stay Together While Apart Before the current COVID-19 heath crisis and recommended social isolation for seniors, Alpert JFS provided monthly “Eat & Schmooze” socialization events to connect our Holocaust clients. Prior to the pandemic, many of them might not have thought themselves as techno-savvy. Both of these situations, however, have changed with the times, as the socialization events are now virtual via Zoom, and have been fully adopted by our clients. The new socialization format, appropriately […] https://www.alpertjfs.org/zoom-schmooze/

Why Was This Year’s Annual Meeting Different Than All Other Annual Meetings?

This year has been a year like no other. One of the many ways Ferd & Gladys Alpert Jewish Family Service (Alpert JFS) and Melvin J. & Claire Levine Jewish Residential & Family Service (Levine JRFS) adapted was taking its Annual Meeting virtual. The theme of the evening, “We Are Here/We’ll Be There,” was illustrated throughout the hour-long online event. (Watch full Annual Meeting video) Among the highlights: Scott Greenberg returned as Master of Ceremonies, welcoming attendees, discharging the 2019-2020 […] https://www.alpertjfs.org/why-was-this-years-annual-meeting-different-than-all-other-annual-meetings/

Caring for Holocaust Survivors During COVID-19

Nothing keeps Alpert JFS from caring for our Holocaust Survivors. While Holocaust Survivors in central and northern Palm Beach County have counted on JFS’ for a wide array of services, from meal delivery and companionship to counseling, support groups, transportation, respite care, psychiatry and more since 1974, they are now relying on the agency even more, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Giving Back as We Move Forward: Our Caring Community

Our caring community of the Greater Palm Beaches knows no bounds! The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) chapter in the gated community of Valencia Shores in Boynton Beach recently opened their hearts and checkbooks to help support our Kosher Food Pantry and meal delivery services. The initiative was spearheaded by LeeAnn Hoffman, an NCJW volunteer who delivered a total of 44 checks from community members who shared her do-good-feel-good philosophy of philanthropy. “In this time of crisis some people […] https://www.alpertjfs.org/giving-back-as-we-move-forward-our-caring-community/

The Kind Kitchen and Alpert JFS: Delivering Goodness

Passover marked the beginning of a beautiful relationship between The Kind Kitchen of Palm Beach and Ferd & Gladys Alpert Jewish Family Service, with the caterer’s volunteers delivering home-cooked holiday meals. Recently, we joined forces in a new initiative, with the delivery of the first of 200 hot, homemade kosher meals to our Holocaust Survivors Assistance and Care Management clients. The service will continue during the COVID-19 crisis, thanks to funding provided by the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County’s […] https://www.alpertjfs.org/the-kind-kitchen-and-alpert-jfs-delivering-goodness/

They’ve been a dynamic duo for seven years now, having the special distinction of being the program’s longest match! Alpert JFS Observes Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day)

We Remember. In a twist of fate, this year’s Alpert JFS Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) tribute to the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust, and the heroism of the Jewish resistance of the period, was celebrated online.  There were no public gatherings in schools, synagogues or community centers. Despite the fact that COVID-19 has affected the way we teach, feel, talk and learn, we remembered – together – while apart. We did this for Holocaust survivors, for […] https://www.alpertjfs.org/yomhashoa2020/

Navigating the Ups & Downs of Our New Reality

It is too easy for the COVID-19 pandemic to be all consuming. Everywhere we turn – in the news, on the TV, on the chalk drawings on our community sidewalks…whoops, there it is. The proverbial “elephant in the room,” coronavirus, has made an impact on our lives in ways never experienced before. Alpert JFS is talking about COVID-19, and helping the individuals and families cope. The agency’s behavioral health services — a team of professionals from licensed clinical social workers […] https://www.alpertjfs.org/navigating-the-ups-downs-of-our-new-reality/

Answer the Call to be Counted in Census 2020 – Your Participation Matters to Our Community’s Future!

2020 is the year of the Census. The U.S. has counted its population every ten years since 1790. Census results help determine how billions of dollars in federal funding flow into states and communities each year, including the need for additional social services. We strongly encourage everyone to respond to the Census as soon as it arrives. We can’t stress its importance enough; the results are the key to our community having the funds necessary to address the needs of […] https://www.alpertjfs.org/2020census/

Living Amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic

Written by Elaine Rotenberg, Ph.D., Clinical Director at Alpert Jewish Family Service There is no question that COVID-19 has taken center stage in our world.  It has become the focus of most conversations, many TV specials, and the precipitant to ending most professional sporting events and entertainment for the time being.  Because we live in the world of 24-hour news outlets, we have had an accelerated course in learning new concepts:  “social distancing,” “flattening the curve,” and on and on.  […] https://www.alpertjfs.org/clinicalmessage-covid19/
