Alan is a 92-year-old widower who dreams of moving to Israel. “Although I was born in Brooklyn, New York, and have lived in many places throughout the world, Israel is where my heart is,” he says.

Unfortunately, Alan is barely surviving in South Florida. He supplements his meager monthly social security income with multiple credit cards. After he lost his wife, he also lost his home and resorted to living in his car. Fortunately, a local Chabad provided Alan with temporary housing and meals. But due to the lack of affordable housing in South Florida, he faced some tough choices.

Alan met with a care manager from Alpert JFS who helped him strategize a plan that would provide him with financial assistance to travel out of state to be with his daughter and granddaughter for the high holidays. The care manager worked with his family and spoke with the Chabad to make sure everyone was on the same page. Following his family visit, Alan planned to travel to Israel to realize his dream.

When the care manager confirmed with Alan that the agency would provide financial assistance to make his plan happen, he was overtaken with emotion. “This is a miracle and a true Mitzvah. I am so grateful!”
